Description
Measurement in centimeters (cm)
100% Cotton
The cotton fabric has been pre-treated (often pre-shrunk or sanforized) to minimize or prevent shrinking after washing.
Technique: Screen printing involves pushing ink through a mesh screen with a stencil to transfer a design onto a surface.
Some ideas of how it is made.
- Use a mesh screen (usually polyester or nylon, stretched over a frame). The mesh count (e.g., 110–160 for fabric) determines how fine the detail can be—lower counts for bold designs, higher for fine details.
- Coat the screen with a light-sensitive emulsion (e.g., using a scoop coater) in a dark room to avoid exposure. Let it dry completely.
- Place a design (printed on a transparent film) onto the emulsion-coated screen. Expose the screen to UV light (using a light box or exposure unit) for a set time (usually 5–15 minutes, depending on the emulsion). The light hardens the emulsion where the design is transparent, leaving unexposed areas (your design) soft.
- Wash the screen with water to remove the unexposed emulsion, revealing your stencil.
